For the 8th consecutive year, the Nationwide Pink Oct – Mov ’23 Campaign is back with a bang!
The campaign was launched today by Chairperson of The Marigold Foundation, Michelle Muscat under the Patronage of First Lady, Mrs Miriam Vella.
This year the campaign, bearing the tagline Don’t Stand Still, will focus on the common female and male cancers, namely breast, ovarian, cervical, testicular, and prostate cancer. The main message urges people to self-check and get tested. Other prevention measures, such as getting vaccinated against the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) are also being put at the forefront.
Parallel to the education and prevention efforts, the campaign will also be raising awareness on the impact of cancer on the mental health of survivors, patients, and their caregivers. The goal here is to urge people to break the silence and reach out. Oftentimes, the mental well-being aspect of battling and recovering from cancer is overlooked, which unfortunately has horrible consequences. This is why The Marigold Foundation is including mental health as well this year.
The general public is urged to look out for the messages, radio adverts, billboards, tv ads, social media and online posts to learn more on how to be brave, do the next step and check their body regularly and be mindful.
Throughout the years the Pink October-Movember campaign has been communicated using attention grabbing visuals intended to stand out and stop people in their tracks. This year’s nude stone and marble statues, portraying the human body, zone in on areas impacted by the most common cancers in focus. The idea behind these visuals takes life from the campaign tagline – Don’t Stand Still. We see that the statues are captured in a moment, defined by their creator, allowing us to pause for a moment to reflect on our responsibility to take action and take care of our bodies.
The event was addressed by Malta’s top clinicians and surgeons including Dr Nick Refalo Clinical Chair of SAMOC, Dr Kristel Von Brockdorff Consultant Oncologist, Dr Danika Marmara Cancer Pathways Director amongst others.
Speaking in one voice, they all stressed the importance of this Campaign in raising awareness and educating the public.
The Annual Nationwide Pink Oct – Mov ’23 Campaign is spearheaded and coordinated by The Marigold Foundation. As per previous years, donations collected will go into a national fund to be distributed amongst breast care and cancer NGOs for research and education.
If the public is generous, funds will go to fund the first Cancer Community Outreach Project in collaboration with Sir Anthony Mamo Oncology Centre
