The Marigold Foundation marks World Disability Day 2020

3 December 2020

The Marigold Foundation marks World Disability Day 2020 by visiting the latest works being carried out at Dar Zerniq in Siggiewi, the home of 4 intellectually disabled residents that live in the the community under the supervision of Dar il-Providenza.

Bought in 1993 by Dar il-Providenza, the house had the purpose to provide a place within the community for residents with intellectual disabilities so as to encourage and promote inclusivity.

After 26 years the house was in terrible need of refurbishing and The Marigold Foundation accepted to take up this project investing 55k in works that include the installation of new services, a new elevator, new bathrooms, new apertures and flooring and brand new modern furniture.

The house which homes 4 residents at one go will be welcoming its previous residents back in time for Christmas after having to move out to Dar il-Providenza while the works were being carried out.

Marigold Chairperson and Co founder Michelle Muscat said that such projects are concrete acts where what is said on paper is actually performed giving tangible results and bettering the lives of people who need it most. Today we do not look at disabilities but look at the abilities that one can master to help them reach new levels in their lives. Such projects also help parents put their mind at rest so that they know that their kids will still live a good life when they are no longer able to take care of them.

Fr. Martin Micallef said in a statement that the Marigold Foundation remains one of the main benefactors and collaborators of Dar il- Providenza, helping to realise projects that foster the lives of those vulnerable in the community. He expressed his pleasure at seeing these residents now excited to start living again in such wonderful surroundings.
